What's the difference between coaching / mentoring?

Executive career leadership human resources sometimes lump coaching / mentoring together. We don't! For us, these terms each represent a different emphasis. We coach teams. We mentor individuals. Our human resources interventions frequently include both coaching and mentoring.

We resist the temptation to regard coaching / mentoring as a last minute, quick-fix effort to salvage what may be improbable. To use human resources coaching / mentoring in that way is a squandering of resources while postponing tough decisions that must eventually be made.

Coaching / mentoring human resources interventions are most wisely used to help individuals and teams step up to their full potential, not as a last gasp salvage attempt.

What's involved in team coaching?

Team coaching is a human resources intervention process which helps teams and individual team members to:
  • clarify their task so every team member gets on the same page,
  • identify team parameters of time, financial and personnel limits,
  • define management team operating guide lines,
  • assign individual and team accountabilities,
  • provide and evaluate multiple alternative solutions,
  • encourage creative problem solving,
  • strengthen individual and team commitment to results.

Our team building human resources process intervention includes both structured phone interviews and in-person team sessions. Because it minimizes travel time and related expenses, this approach helps keep your costs down.

Once we've conducted team member interviews, usually by phone, we develop a descriptive, non-judgmental report that identifies common issues identified through our interviews.

Because we are committed to maintaining confidentiality, individual quotes are not identified by the person making them.

Before this report is presented to the team leader, it is reviewed with those whom we have interviewed. This provides them with the opportunity to clarify and enrich our comments. Only then do we present this information to the management team leader for next - step initiatives.

Our primary responsibility is to facilitate your team members in working more effectively, efficiently and creatively to get results important to you.

Team coaching is a human resources intervention process which helps teams and individual team members to:

  • benefit from the diverse perspective of team members,
  • identify and evaluate multiple alternative solutions,
  • problem solve creatively,
  • make more efficient use of resources.

What's involved in mentoring?

Mentoring is an individualized human resources support intervention sculpted to help individuals committed to stepping up to their greater potential. Our current human resources mentoring process includes:

  • customer focused workplace assessments,
  • establishing key individual development objectives,
  • identifying development - inhibiting behaviors to he overcome,
  • accountability for timely completion of up to two written assignments monthly and an average of twenty five hours of phone conversations spread over a three-month time-frame.

Our mentoring process helps individuals step up to their potential by:

  • understanding themselves as a resource for the success of others,
  • identifying the business culture pitfalls they must navigate to be successful in their organization,
  • assessing the strengths and development needs of their technical, interpersonal and team skills,
  • extending their ability to help other people succeed,
  • involving themselves in their own continuous development.

Please note, strict confidentiality is always maintained!

If you are ready to take personal accountability for your own leadership skills development, human resources mentoring will help you:

  • expand your operating options,
  • step beyond the rutted routines of habit and become a more creative problem solver,
  • establish a continuous development approach to claiming your potential,
  • get greater results in less time,
  • equip you for more effective business leadership.
